fast & dirty presents Monument was an outdoor public installation that was an intersection of public spaces and private places, a memorial to temporality, and an exploration of how we inhabit urban landscapes. On the first day of the exhibition, created for Edmonton’s The Works Festival of Art and Design in July 2010, seven visual artists covered both sides of the four walls of the 16 ft by 12 ft installation with posters created from their artworks.
Through this performative installation process, the artists negotiated and collaborated on how and where the works covered the walls. Performance artists and contemporary dancers then created pieces that responded directly to the exhibition, the artworks on the walls, and its location in Sir Winston Churchill Square.
